Michael P. Murphy, M.D.

As a board-certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Murphy has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of otolaryngology with an emphasis on both pediatric and adult sinonasal disease and ear disease. He grew up in the northern twin cities suburbs and received a BS from St. John’s University. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical school in Minneapolis with honors, and he completed a general surgical internship and otolaryngology residency at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. He currently works in most of the major health systems including Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, Allina (Abbot Northwestern and Allina Buffalo), Fairview (Southdale and Burnsville Ridges), and North Memorial (Minnetonka Clinic). He operates out of these hospitals as well as the associated surgical centers of Ridges Surgery Center in Burnsville, Children’s West Surgery Center, and Minnetonka North Memorial Surgery Center. He sees patients at our Burnsville, Southdale, North Memorial Minnetonka, and Allina Buffalo clinics.

His practice philosophy is to carefully listen to patient’s concerns, and involve them in the diagnostic process and treatment planning. He believes in the importance of shared decision making and finds it important to take the time to educate patients to help them make the best decisions that are right for them. He finds it helpful and he enjoys answering all questions during the clinic visit and he makes himself available to answer questions afterwards as well. He follows best practice guidelines with an appreciation and concern for the high financial costs of healthcare.

When he is not at work he likes traveling with his wife and 3 children. He also enjoys and competes in running, Nordic skiing, swimming, and mountain biking.
